Sin = Violation of conscience or of divine law; missing the mark - - Falling short of God's perfect standard.
Righteous = Acting in a morally correct manner; correct by divine declaration - - The standard God requires.
I thought it best to begin with clear definitions and a clear picture of who we are and what we do and can't ever do on our own.
He personally carried our sins in His body on the Cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed. ~ 1 Peter 2:24
ESV says - "He bore our sins"
MSG says - "He used His servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way."
TPT says - "Our instant healing flowed from His wounding."
Do you understand that you are and always will be a sinner? You are, I am....we always will be. We will always fall short of God's glorious standard.
As an especially wretched woman, this is a really really heavy verse. Honestly, I was going to skip over this verse and not write about it.....it just put me in a really sad mind. But then God said - what is the promise of this verse? - - If you are saved, Jesus' righteousness is the promise, healing is the promise! Suddenly this verse brought me great joy and filled me with gratitude and I had to dig in!
All the sins of the whole world - past, present and future, He bore for us - to make a way! Over 2,000 years ago, before I was even here to commit any sins, Jesus died for the future sins I would commit! He made a way for me before I needed a way. - Sit in the goodness of that for a bit.
Jesus died because of our sins and for our sins - for every wrong we have ever committed and will commit. Every wrong thought, attitude and action.
The fact is that sin is a bigger disaster than we think it is and grace is more amazing than we seem to be able to grasp that it is. - Tripp
Sin is too big. God's bar is too high. It is beyond the reach of every human being who has ever taken his or her first breath. - Tripp
But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8
While we were still sinners - This is us NOW, ongoing, we are always sinning!
There is nothing righteous about us on our own!
If you obey for a thousand years, you're no more accepted than when you first believed; your acceptance is based on Christ's righteousness and not yours. - Tripp
Jesus was the only one who could atone for our sins.
Christ died for our sins, in our place (it should have been me!) so we would not have to suffer the punishment we deserve . This is called substitutionary atonement. - My NIV Bible
Atonement = reparation for a wrong; the reconciliation of God and humankind through Jesus Christ.
Reparation = make amends
Jesus made amends with God on my behalf!
He suffered as our substitute to win our salvation!
All healing is connected to Jesus' wounds and Jesus' wounds are connected to His death for sin. - Tony Evans
Jesus suffered for doing good, without fighting back, so He could fulfill His purpose. - God judged Christ for our sins! Jesus paid for our abundant life and gave us access to God.
When God looks at us, He sees us clothed in the perfect righteousness of Jesus.
"He who bore my sin in His own body on the tree took all my debts and paid them for me, and now I am dead to those debts; they have no power over me. I am dead to my sins; Christ suffered instead of me. I have nothing to do with them. They are gone as much as if they had never been committed." - Spurgeon
The Promise - - WE ARE FREE!!!!
We are no longer defined by our sins, God no longer sees our sins, we are no longer slaves to sin, we are no longer set on a course for the grave, it has no power over us anymore!!!
One day very soon I hope, we will live in Glory with God only because of what Jesus did for us!
